Dr. Ken Fisher grew up in Stamford, CT and has lived in Washington, DC; Andover, MA; Seattle, WA; Berkeley, CA; and Buenos Aires, Argentina. He earned a B.A. at Dartmouth College. Before attending veterinary school at the University of California – Davis, Dr. Fisher spent many years as a high school biology teacher, including two years teaching at the American school in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
After graduating from veterinary school, Dr. Fisher moved to Pittsburgh where he worked in emergency veterinary medicine. He now lives in Squirrel Hill with his wife, Amanda; two children, Marina and Benjamin; 2 cats, Bellatrix, and Blue; and a dog, Luna. Although he spends most of his free time with family activities, Dr. Fisher also enjoys hiking, camping, running, and winter sports. He has a growing interest in volunteering at sled-dog races.
Dr. Annie Berner is a Pittsburgh native raised in Monroeville. She graduated from Saint Vincent College in Latrobe, PA with a dual BS in cell and molecular biology and organismal biology. From there, she went on to The Ohio State University and earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree. After graduating from vet school, Dr. Berner practiced large and small animal medicine in Ohio where she gained loves for surgery, ophthalmology, and dermatology. Dr. Berner moved back to Pittsburgh (she just couldn’t stay away!) with her husband, Jonathan, in 2010. They have two children, Julian and Jacob, and a Boxer named Daphne. All of them love being outside and enjoy spending free time hiking, biking, and swimming. Dr. Berner and her family also enjoy good books and good food. In recent years, Dr. Berner has developed an interest in animal behavior and fear-free patient interactions. She is excited to be a part of the EEVMC team and looks forward to the honor of working with you and your pets.
Dr. Elizabeth Nagle joined EEVMC in the spring of 2015. She originally moved to the Pittsburgh area in the early 80’s after receiving a Bachelor of Science from West Virginia University and a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from The Ohio State University School of Veterinary Medicine. Over the years her primary focus has been on canine and feline medicine. In her spare time she spends time with her husband and their 2 sons, 2 dogs and 2 cats. When she can find time, she also enjoys reading, needlework and yoga. She is excited to be a part of the staff at EEVMC and has enjoyed meeting and working with all the clients and their pets.
Dr. Miguel Ortiz was born in Guatemala City, Guatemala and called Indiana State and Washington home before moving to Pittsburgh in 2013. He attended Veterinary school at Purdue University and recently enrolled at the University of Pittsburgh’s Graduate School of Public and International Affairs. When not at the clinic, or attending classes, Dr. Ortiz enjoys a good book, gardening, visiting his parent’s home, going on runs in Frick park, or traveling with his partner and best friend, Elizabeth. His approach to primary care medicine is informed by a thoughtful connection between his patients, a deep knowledge of medial intervention, and likes to formulate a collaborative plan with the pet parents to meet their needs and goals.
He provides care in both English and Spanish.

Anne feels fortunate to be one of those people who loves their job and knows there is truth to learning new things everyday! She started at EEVMC in November of 2010 although she has worked as a veterinary technician since1993. She loves reading, exercise, and walking or hiking with her dog. From October to June you will find her at the arena or in her living room watching Pittsburgh Penguins Hockey. GO PENS!
Joy started here at EEVMC in August of 2011 as a full time technician. She has been working as a tech since 2000 when she graduated from Harcum College. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her husband and her six 4 legged friends. She also enjoys playing volleyball, bowling, and participating and volunteering at church events and with Urban Impact.
Shawn is a full time technician at EEVMC. She has worked as a technician at several hospitals both in the area and in San Jose, CA since graduating from the Vet Tech Institute in 2OO7. She loves watching movies and spending time with her husband, Cary. They have a German Shepherd rescue, Nero, as well as 3 rescue cats.
Mae has been a receptionist here since 2011, although she also doubles as a technician. She has been working in the veterinary field for a long time. She has a full house that includes her husband, Chris, her son, 4 dogs, and 3 cats. Outside of work she enjoys walking, biking, and watching Pittsburgh Penguins hockey. Anything that gets her moving, she is up for it.
Ashley has been a certified veterinary technician since 2010 and has worked at EEVMC full time since August of 2014. Her best friend, Alby, a lab mix, is her walking and running partner. She enjoys live music, creating art, camping, fishing, and movies in her spare time.
Kim has been a veterinary technician since 1998. She graduated from Median School of Allied Health careers. She has two cats Bean and Soc. She also has a dog named Ruby. In her free time she loves walking in the woods, taking photos, and reading.
Kori previously worked for over 10 years as a veterinary practice manager for her fathers small animal hospital in Oregon. Having fallen in love with the city of Pittsburgh during her years playing tennis at Duquesne University, she took her father’s retirement as an opportunity to move back. Flying across the country with her daughter, 2 cats, and rabbit she returned to the burgh in 2019. In her free time she enjoys exploring Pittsburgh with her daughter, hanging out with her pets, and eating Mineo’s Pizza.
Jeanne recently moved to the Pittsburgh area and started working at EEVMC In 2019. She has been working with animals for over a decade and in the veterinary field since 2014. She lives with her husband, kids, dogs, cats and Potbelly pig Charlotte.
Tara joined our team in spring of 2018. She previously worked at a pet hotel, where she found her love and passion working with animals. She has 2 cats, Fry and Punkin, and 2 pitbull mixes, Buddy and Ino. In her free time, she loves being outdoors, reading, and spending time with her family and her boyfriend, Lu.
Chad has enjoyed working in the veterinary field for the past few years .He enjoys being with friends, family, and spending time outdoors. He has 2 cats, Paisley and Cloud; as well as his Beagle Zola who keep him very busy.
Jen has worked in the veterinary field as a vet tech since graduating from Sanford Brown institute in 2009. Her love and compassion for all animals shows in the variety of pets she owns and cares for: 2 Cats, 2 Dogs, a mini pig, a bearded dragon, 2 chinchillas, and a mouse. In her free time she loves to read, go to local shows and spend time with her friends and family.
Crendia has been a veterinary technician since 2017. Her passion for animals came while volunteering at local shelters. Her family together has 12 pets not including her dog Arlee and her cat Skittles. She also enjoys painting, bike riding and spending time with her girlfriend, Megan.
Rylee graduated from Pittsburgh Career Institute in November of 2020 and pursuing her career to help animals, she started her career at another hospital before becoming a full time technician at EEVMC in 2021. She loves hiking, camping, attending concerts and spending time with her 4 dogs Koda, Zoey, Drake and Finn in her spare time. She is excited to start a new adventure with her boyfriend and welcoming a baby into the world in November of 2021.
